On 12th October 2022, the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB), in conjunction with the Ministry of Education launched the electronic system for registration of candidates (e-Registration) and payment (e-Payment) of examination fees at Golden Peacock Hotel in Lilongwe. The new system, which was developed with financial support from the World Bank through the EQUALS project, is used for registering candidates who wish to sit for Primary School Leaving Certificate of Examinations (PSLCE), Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) and Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) and the pay examinations fees. The official launch marked the national roll out of the system, to be used in all 34 education districts across the country.

The launch was patronized by various stakeholders and was graced by the Deputy Minister of Education, Honourable Monica Chang’anamuno, MP, who emphasized the significance of the system to MANEB, the Ministry of Education and the nation. Speaking during the launch, the Deputy Minister pointed out that such an innovation is of great importance, and it is something the nation has been looking forward to, as it will assist in curbing most of the challenges that MANEB was facing during preparation processes for administration of national examinations for all levels.

The Honourable Deputy Minister also emphasized that challenges that came with increasing candidature and lack of accountability in the handling of examination fees by schools and even the candidates themselves, will be put to an end because the system brings in transparency and efficiency. Concurring with the Deputy Minister, the Chairperson for MANEB board of Directors, Professor Samson Sajidu stressed that, the e-Payment system ensures safety for public resources through direct payment of examination fees into MANEB’s account.

In regard to registration and payment of examination fees for 2023 examinations, Professor Dorothy Nampota, the Executive Director for MANEB, indicated that the e- system will be functional for all education districts in the country and called on teachers to continue doing the commendable job of registering candidates at their respective examination centres. She also urged parents to take responsibility in the payment of examination fees for their wards to avoid a repetition of the past mistakes.

The Honourable Deputy Minister demonstrated the system by registering an MSCE candidate from Chitedze CDSS online to mark the official opening of the 2023 examinations registration.
